SEPANG, Jan 4 — The Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) has given hawkers and restaurant operators a month to practice wearing face masks when handling food.

Its president Dato’ Abd Hamid Hussain said the directive to make wearing face masks mandatory was decided by the state government to ensure traders’ level of cleanliness.

“For the first month, we will first give advice to traders you flout the directive and if they fail to comply, appropriate actions will be imposed according to existing laws.

“Monitoring will be done by several departments, namely the departments of licensing, enforcement and health. We hope that the premise owners who obtained a license complies with the directive because it is included in the license terms and conditions,” he said when met after the swearing-in ceremony of the MPSepang council members involving a total of 23 individuals for the 2023 term.

Also sworn in was the Divisional Secretary (Management Services) of the State Secretary’s Office Muhamad Shah Osmin who is now appointed as the new deputy chief.

On December 29, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the use of face masks is mandatory for hawkers and restaurant operators in the state from January 1 onwards to improve the level of cleanliness in food handling.

He said the approach is aimed to increase customer confidence in addition to avoiding the spread of Covid-19 and food poisoning issues.

Meanwhile, MPSepang said it is opening applications for Ramadan bazaar permits online from January 16 to February 17.

Its president said traders can apply through ebazar.mpsepang.gov.my from a total of 550 bazaar plots in 11 locations available.

“The locations of the Ramadan bazaar sites are in Putra Perdana, Cyberjaya, Dengkil, Dengkil Jaya, Taman Mas, Sg Merab, Kota Warisan, Kosmoplex, Salak, Sg Pelek and Desa Pinggiran Putra.

“This year we are offering plots with the same rental rate as before which is RM120 to RM180 for a period of 30 days, not including the cap and apron charge.

“Compared to last year, the location of bazaars are the same but with a total of 500 sites. The operating procedures of the bazaar are still the same, but do wait for an announcement from the state government or the Ministry of Health,” said Abd Hamid.
