Half of Selangor to see inclement weather until 8pm — MetMalaysia

SHAH ALAM, Jan 8 — Thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds are expected in five Selangor districts until 8pm today, said the Malaysians Meteorological Department.

In a warning issued by the agency at 3.55pm on Facebook, the affected areas are Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat.

“Other states to be hit with similar weather conditions are Perlis and Kuala Lumpur. Stormy weather is also anticipated in Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik and Baling), Perak (Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Kelantan (Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh and Gua Musang) and Terengganu (Besut and Kemaman).

“Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Maran, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin), Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah and Jempol) and Johor (Mersing) is also expected to be hit with heavy rains.

“Meanwhile in East Malaysia, thunderstorms are forecasted in Sarawak: Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman (Lubok Antu), Mukah (Mukah), Kapit (Song and Kapit), Bintulu, Miri (Beluru, Telang Usan and Marudi) and Limbang, as well as Sabah: Pedalaman (Sipitang, Nabawan and Tambunan), Pantai Barat (Tuaran, Ranau and Kota Belud), Tawau (Tawau, Kunak and Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Telupid and Beluran) and Kudat,” it said.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
