State govt mulling venue expansion to host larger annual business summit — Exco

SHAH ALAM, Feb 10 — The state government is considering expanding the venue for its annual international business expo following its overwhelmingly positive reception in the previous year.

State executive councillor for investment, industry and trade Dato’ Teng Chang Khim said that in addition to utilising the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) this year will be hosted at nearby hotels this year to accommodate the growing number of attendees.

He said the hotels would include the Traders Hotel and Grand Hyatt Hotel.

“Based on the achievements recorded last year, we are confident that we will experience positive growth this year. Therefore, it has been suggested that additional space be allocated by including the hotels close to the convention centre.

“What has been proposed is that the conferences and other events take place at the hotels, with the convention centre serving as the exhibition. However, negotiations are still ongoing,” said Teng when contacted by SelangorKini.

Last year, the SIBS 2022, which ran from October 6 to 9 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, recorded some RM1.45 billion in potential business transactions in comparison to the RM350 million target.

The international expo saw a total of 906 exhibition booths from 623 companies and had the participation of 60 countries made up of exhibitors, international buyers, conference speakers, seminar participants, and visitors.

The event also surpassed the initial target of 30,000 visitors with a turnout of 44,342 visitors, inclusive of 25 per cent public visitors and 75 per cent trade visitors.
