AMPANG, Feb 9 — The Teratai state constituency’s community service centre will organize a special programme to hand over Jom Shopping vouchers to Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) participants next month.

Its coordinator Alice Tan said based on the available data, over 4,000 SMUE participants are eligible to receive the shopping vouchers worth RM150 each, but have yet to claim them.

“Them programme will be implemented in collaboration with Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas). We seek to expedite the process of distributing these vouchers, in the time leading up to Hari Raya Aidilfitri (on April 21)

“Since January, some 2,000 senior citizens registered in the Teratai state constituency have received Jom Shopping vouchers,” she said during the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat affordable basic necessities sales programme, at Pangsapuri Lembah Maju yesterday.

Tan also requested that senior citizens who turn 60 this year but have yet to register for SMUE to check their respective polling stations beforehand, before coming to the service centre to do so.

“If they are voters registered in another state constituency, the voucher recipient must head to the community service centre of that constituency to register for and redeem their Jom Shopping vouchers,” she said.

Earlier on, the state government announced the monthly household income eligibility limit for Jom Shopping voucher recipients will be increased from RM2,000 to RM3,000, starting this year.

Under SMUE, recipients will also receive a RM150 shopping voucher on their birthday, compared to RM100 previously, as well as RM500 in death benefits.
