Fama JTDL programme records RM3.64 mln in sales as of Feb

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 — The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) recorded sales of RM3.64 million from its direct sales from farm (JTDL) programme up to February, involving a total of 2,827 entrepreneurs at 203 locations nationwide.

Fama Director-General Datuk Zainal Yang Razalli said the JTDL is seen as one of the “quick-win” programmes to help producers market their products directly to consumers, thus reducing the cost of living for the people.

“This time, the JTDL programme offers special features such as the Madani combination that was introduced so that customers can purchase vegetables at a reasonable price, and there are also promotional prices for standard chicken products, omega eggs, rice, cooking oil and local meat.

“Also, today, we see 26 traders offering discounts of five to 30 per cent compared to the local market, giving consumers a price advantage,” he said when met at the Fama headquarters here today.

Meanwhile, Fama Digital Marketing senior director Nor Hairi Harun said that shoppers who buy Madani eggs and hampers through Agro Bazaar Online will be eligible to receive a voucher worth RM5 for every purchase of RM15 and above.

For purchases of RM30 and above, consumers will receive a RM15 voucher and, as such, buyers are recommended to make online purchases.

Elaborating, Zainal said Fama had taken proactive steps since last November to improve the marketing of the country’s agro-food products, especially eggs, for the domestic market through collaboration with departments and agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

“Fama’s egg-supply intervention programme aims to balance the supply of eggs in the market until the supply recovers. From November last year to February, Fama distributed 16.272 million eggs nationwide,” he said.

This intervention will continue until June when an updated assessment will be made on whether to continue it until the end of the year.

“Fama currently obtains supplies from five main producing states, namely Melaka, Sarawak, Sabah, Penang and Negeri Sembilan, and welcomes cooperation from other local producers,” Zainal added.
