JOHOR BAHRU, March 16 — The flood situation in Johor is seen to be receding, with the number of victims, as of 8am today, down to 31,680 compared to 33,254 at 8pm yesterday.

According to a statement from the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), three districts — Batu Pahat, Segamat and Muar — are still affected by the floods involving 8,992 families placed at 107 temporary relief centres.

“Batu Pahat has the biggest number of flood victims involving 31,581 individuals, followed by Segamat (75) and Tangkak (24),” said the statement.

Meanwhile, the secretariat of the District Disaster Management Committee in Batu Pahat said good weather is expected in the district, with many flood victims expected to return to their respective homes.

A Bernama survey also found that floodwaters in several areas in the district are receding and many victims have also started cleaning up their houses, especially in preparation of the start of Ramadan next week.
