MBPJ recognised as best local authority by SPB-PBT 2022

SHAH ALAM, March 13 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has been named as the country’s best local authority under the Local Authority Star Rating System (SPB-PBT) 2022.

In a statement by the council’s corporate communications unit, it said Petaling Jaya Mayor Mohamad Azhan Md. Amir received the award on behalf of MBPJ, presented by Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming during the Pihak Berkuasa Tempatan 2023 Convention, which took place at the Ipoh Convention Center in Perak from March 11 to March 12.

Themed Perbandaran Madani, Negara Sejahtera, the convention was attended by close to 2,000 participants, which included mayors, council presidents, secretaries, and local authority officials from all over the country.

It also served as a platform for the participants to share their experiences, hold discussions, as well as seek out innovative and creative approaches and solutions in holistically dealing with issues that local authorities must face.

MBPJ was also given the privilege to participate in the exhibition and table a special presentation on the Petaling Jaya Smart, Sustainable and Resilient Blueprint (PJSSR) 2030, which was presented by Petaling Jaya Deputy Mayor Sharipah Marhaini Syed Ali.

The participants’ responses to the exhibition and presentation of PJSSR 2030 was noted to be very encouraging, as they regarded it as a new innovation in the institutional transformation and governance of local authorities, to which MBPJ is prepared to share its experiences.
