SHAH ALAM, March 16 — More than 20,000 hawkers and small traders have now registered with the Selangor Platform (Plats) in order to expand their businesses and market reach.

State executive councillor for entrepreneurial development Rodziah Ismail said the platform is one of Selangor’s efforts to complete its digitalisation agenda, rather than serve as a competitor to the private sector.

“Collaboration with stakeholders can help hawkers and small traders adapt to the digital economy, like with cashless transactions and p-hailing (Foodpanda, Grab Food),” she said.

Rodziah was speaking during the wind-up to the debate on the royal speech by the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting today.

Meanwhile, she said the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) also plays an important role in implementing digital transformation via three main sectors.

These encompass e-commerce, start-ups, and the digitisation of small-and-medium enterprises, which have already begun implementation in several Selangor districts.

“It also includes the delivery of food and goods, as well as cashless payments through the Jelajah Usahawan Digital Selangor roadshow,” Rodziah said.

Plats was first introduced in 2020 to complete Selangor’s digitisation agenda ecosystem, following the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, and subsequently improved upon to ensure traders will be able to generate income all-year round.
