LABIS, March 8 — A total of 291 personnel from various Selangor agencies were mobilised to help with the cleanup efforts in nine flood-hit locations in the Labis district, Johor.
State executive councillor for human capital development Mohd Khairuddin Othman said that the second phase of the Bantuan Kita Selangor Penyayang mission commences today until Friday and will involves personnel from the 12 Selangor local authorities, Selangor Volunteers (Serve), Team Selangor and KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM).
He said that 107 assets, including tankers, backhoes, jetter trucks, four-wheel drive vehicles, washing equipment and roll-on-roll-off (Roro) bins, were sent for the three-day mission,
“All of the personnel, assets and logistics are coordinated by State Disaster Management Unit (Management Services) Divisional secretary Muhammad Hanafi Ahmad.
“We hope that the cleanup process will go smoothly and that the locals will cooperate,” he said when met at the disaster operations centre at the Labis District Council multipurpose hall, here today.
Earlier, leading the humanitarian mission, Mohd Khairuddin was briefed by Labis District Council president Herman Raban on the current situation of the affected residents.
The worst hit areas include Kampung Jawa Baru Chaah, Kampung Kangkar 1 and 2, Taman Damai Jaya 2, Taman Sri Chaah and Taman Orkid.
Yesterday, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced that the state government is mobilising the second phase of the Bantuan Kita Selangor Penyayang relief and humanitarian mission.
The team consists of representatives from various state agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) who are involved in the post-flood cleanup efforts.
On March 4, the first phase of Bantuan Kita Selangor Penyayang was mobilised to dispatch basic necessities to the Disaster Needs Storage Depot (South Zone), Muar, to ease the distribution of aid to the flood victims.
The state government had disbursed 1,000 food items and 1,000 hygiene kits were handed over, including 418 food baskets, 200 five-kilogram rice packs, adult and children’s disposable diapers, slippers, adult and children’s clothing, and mineral water.
