SHAH ALAM, March 9 — Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin attends the 2023 Potong Royong programme in Hulu Langat today.

According to a statement from the Selangor Royal Office, Potong Royong is a cat spaying programme organised by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FPV), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) together with several non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

Among the NGOs involved are the Society For The Prevention of Cruelty To Animals (SPCA Selangor), the Malaysian Veterinary Medical Association (Mavma) and the Malaysian Pet Veterinary Association (Msava)

“Her Royal Highness was pleased to join in the campaign activities such as cat health checks, education on cat care and the importance of spaying and vaccinating cats,” said the statement on Facebook today.

The statement also informed that the programme is an initiative to raise awareness among the public about the importance of spaying cats and loving pets.

In addition, it said the programme is also to help reduce complications of stray cats as well as an alternative to cat population control.

“Cat owners who want to participate in this programme can register their animals by making an appointment on Whatsapp at 016-9274530 (SPCA).

“This cat spaying procedure will incur a fee but subsidies are given under the funding of ‘Stray Free Selangor’ (SFS) sponsored by Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin,” it said.
