Exco: Air Selangor to keep close watch, ensure no water cuts during Hari Raya

By Sofia Nasir

SHAH ALAM, April 18 — The Selangor government will take proactive measures to ensure that the Klang Valley’s water supply would not be disrupted during the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season.

State executive councillor for infrastructure and public amenities Ir Izham Hashim said that Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) will have its staff members on duty around the clock to keep an eye on the situation.

“For the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Air Selangor personnel would be on duty and working overtime to ensure that the situation is under control.

“People will be able to enjoy the holiday season in peace when everything runs well,” he said when met after launching the closing ceremony of the workshop on the Sungai Klang Integrated River Basin Management (IRBM) Plan Review (2022-2030), here yesterday.

On the IRBM, Izham said the plan was formulated to ensure that water resources are efficiently managed to meet the demands of the population.

He said that the initiative was put forward to address the issue of climate change, which is Selangor’s main challenge.

“Climate change is a crisis we are now experiencing, and we cannot ignore it.

“We shall make sure that four policies—adequate water supply, clean water, preventing floods, and environmental conservation—are carried out through IRBM,” he said.

Izham said that the IRBM serves as a reference plan for all stakeholders and associated authorities according to Section 46 (1)(a) of the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) Enactment 1999, which covers the implementation of integrated management plans.

He said that Luas developed the plan as an essential manual and point of reference for the sustainable management and planning of Selangor’s river basins and water resources.

“This method will assist interested parties and authorised agencies in identifying the current state of the river basins, any issues or problems that may occur, and the best solution for protecting water resources,” he added.
