Kuskop to launch transformation plan to strengthen digitalisation capabilities

KOTA KINABALU, April 7 — The Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry (Kuskop) will launch the Cooperative Digitalisation Action Plan soon to strengthen the digitalisation capabilities of cooperatives.

Its minister Datuk Ewon Ebin Benedick said the action plan also aims to improve cooperatives’ ability to run technology-based businesses and use technology optimally.

The plan will be implemented in collaboration with the Cooperative Commission of Malaysia (SKM), Cooperative Institute of Malaysia (IKMa) and Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (Angkasa).

“The digitisation of cooperatives is one of Kuskop’s main focus areas in providing an intervention programme to restore the cooperatives sector.

“The ministry is confident that the plan is able to bring change and transform the cooperatives movement towards digitalisation to increase the income of the community, especially the lower-income (B40) group,” he said in a statement today.

Ewon added that cooperatives need to move from conventional business to technology adaptation and digitalisation, as marketing through digital platforms and online payments are very important in the new business norm.

Up to 2022, a total of 1,706 cooperatives registered in Sabah, with 343,230 members, and the accumulated shares and fees stand at RM220 million.

“For the same period, the accumulated assets (Sabah cooperatives) are RM826.44 million and revenue is RM437.15 million,” he said.
