MBI spends over RM20 mln a year to safeguard people’s welfare

SEPANG, April 29 — The Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation), or MBI, has invested more than RM20 million annually to safeguard the well-being of the people.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the funds were mainly used to address issues such as situations requiring immediate attention and assistance.

“(Selangor) is a wealthy state with a large population and variety of activities… when a disaster strikes, it will affect a large number of people.

“Therefore, we must thus strive to be a state that can withstand the test when faced with a variety of obstacles and challenges,” he said when delivering his speech at the aid handover ceremony for 36 storm victims in Sepang at Dewan Komuniti Pulau Meranti, here today.

Amirudin said that the state administration is always prepared to support the people, particularly in the event of an emergency.

“Without a doubt, if (a disaster) struck in Selangor, the state government would work with the locals to cushion the impact.

“We would not allow the residents to deal with this on their own and try to make sure that everyone, especially those who require immediate help, would be supported,” he said.

On April 8, more than 20 locations in Kampung Pulau Meranti, Taman Putra Perdana and Pangsapuri Angsana, Sepang, were hit by a storm.

The incident at around 4.30pm damaged a number of public facilities, including mosques, suraus, commercial buildings, and residential homes.
