Sungai Gong water quality shows improvements from treatment under SJAM — Luas

SHAH ALAM, April 4 — The water quality of Sungai Gong has improved as a result of the treatment process under the Selangor Raw Water Security Scheme (SJAM), says the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas).

In a Facebook post yesterday, the state agency said that the bio-remediation pilot project had improved the turbid water source in Sungai Gong, which also resulted in reduced deposited silt.

“Based on the checks, the Sungai Gong water quality has improved following the production of naturally oxygenated water through the project implemented by the state government through the appointed party Nuaim Corporation Sdn Bhd and monitored by Luas.

“This biological treatment or bio-remediation pilot project is a short-term solution to address the pollution issues in Sungai Gong and prevent the Sungai Selangor water treatment plants from ceasing its operations,” the post read.

SJAM is one of the Selangor administration’s programmes to oversee the state’s water resources’ quality and quantity, which also includes measures to address the issues of river pollution and lack of raw water from upstream to downstream.

Several strategic measures were immediately put in place under the scheme, including the
the bio-remediation pilot project to biologically treat water catchment ponds such as Sungai Gong, 24-hour surveillance at the Sungai Selangor and Sungai Langat river basins by the Luas Rapid Squad using high-tech drones, and increasing water quality telemetry systems at high-risk areas for early detection of pollution.
