Azizulhasni rockets to third gold in 24 hours in HK Track Cup

KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 — National track cycling ace Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang pocketed his third gold medal within 24 hours after dominating the men’s keirin event in the 2023 Hong Kong International Track Cup II at the Hong Kong Velodrome last night.

Mohd Azizulhasni, who is world famously monikered as ‘The Pocket Rocketman’, produced an energetic ride to beat team Astana’s Sergey Ponomaryov, who took silver, while the country’s young rider Mohd Akmal Nazimi took home the bronze, according to www.uci.org.

Another national elite rider Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom finished sixth.

On Friday, Mohd Azizulhasni, who is also the 2017 keirin world champion and 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games keirin silver medallist, grabbed two golds in the sprint and keirin events at the one-day Hong Kong International Track Cup I.

Meanwhile, yesterday’s competition saw national woman cyclist Nurul Izzah Mohd Asri, who won gold in the women’s sprint yesterday, failing to repeat her feat when she only managed bronze in the same event.

The two-day 2023 Hong Kong International Track Cup II ends today.
