SHAH ALAM, May 19 — The Selangor State Government has extended its provision of free pneumococcal vaccinations to 2,000 Hajj pilgrims, an increase of 500 additional shots, in response to overwhelming public demand.
In a statement, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the vaccinations are being administered in conjunction with the state-level World Vaccination Day, in addition to the mandatory Meningococcal vaccine for Hajj pilgrims.
“On May 7, 2023, a total of 1,500 doses were made available free of charge to Hajj pilgrims at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque. Out of this number, 1,383 doses have been administered, with the remaining 117 doses still available at the Selcare Unisel Clinic.
“This initiative aims to safeguard the health of pilgrims embarking on their religious duties in the holy land this year,’’ he said.
Earlier today, the Menteri Besar chaired the Selangor State Executive Council, where three resolutions were passed, including the provision of alternative water sources in response to the ongoing heatwave.
For the third resolution, the state government agreed to increase the number of Al-Qu’ran and Fardu Ain (Kafa) teachers, to ensure the education quality for students while alleviating the burden on existing Kafa teachers.
Under this resolution, an additional 656 Kafa teachers will be appointed by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department in stages over a period of five years until 2027. The first step will involve the appointment of 150 Kafa teachers this year.
The government has allocated a total of RM14,550,211.20 over a five-year period, to enhance the capacity and address the needs of Kafa teachers in Selangor.
