SUBANG JAYA, June 7 – Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has reminded his predecessor Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali that the dissolution of the state assembly is a matter of discussion between the Menteri Besar’s office and the Selangor Ruler.

Calling out the Selangor Perikatan Nasional (PN) chief for prematurely “announcing” the dissolution of the state assembly to be on June 19, Amirudin said that he has yet to propose any dates and seek the consent of Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.

“Unfortunately, he (Azmin) has announced it, so the best word to describe him would be ‘premature’. So, do not be premature all the time; it is not good for you,” said Amirudin in jest.

“As a former Menteri Besar, he should know. The dissolution of the state assembly is a matter between the office of the Menteri Besar and His Royal Highness.

“It is proposed by the Menteri Besar and accepted by the state ruler. So, both sides have to agree on the best period to announce the dissolution of the state assembly. So far, I have yet to propose any dates, so His Royal Highness has not consented to any dates yet,” said Amirudin to the press when met after the launch of the Selangor Investor Appreciation Award 2019 – 2022 held at Sunway Resort Hotel, here last night.

Amirudin’s remarks were in response to Azmin’s “announcement” during a PN’s campaign programme held in Tanjong Karang on Sunday that the state assembly will dissolve on June 19.

On Monday, Selangor Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) Leadership Council managing secretary Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad said Azmin’s statement disrespects the norms of the state government’s management procedures.

Saifuddin said the move made by Azmin gave the impression that the latter is greedy to the point of ignoring conventions that ought to be adhered to.

On May 15, Amirudin said he is set to seek an audience with the Selangor Ruler before His Royal Highness departs to perform haj as the state assembly is set to dissolve on June 25 automatically.

The Selangor Pakatan Harapan chief said there is a process that must be followed and that the decision is up to His Royal Highness.

Six states will be holding their state elections this year, namely Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Selangor, Terengganu, Kelantan and Kedah.
