SHAH ALAM, June 5 — A total of 78 flood victims from Bandar Bukit Raja in Klang were relocated to the temporary relief centre (PPS) at Masjid Bandar Bukit Raja, early yesterday morning.

The State Disaster Management Unit’s (UPNB) service management division secretary Muhammad Hanafi Ahmad said 20 families were affected when their homes were inundated with floodwaters as high as half a metre, due to heavy rainfall over the course of several hours on the day of the incident.

“The waters also rose rapidly due to the high-tide phenomenon. Simultaneously, the drainage system was unable to handle the amount of water, as the level was high and the water was unable to flow out.

“We expect that if the weather remains good today with no high tide, the victims will be able to return to their homes starting this evening. To which this PPS will also be closed,” he said when contacted today.

Muhammad Hanafi added the victims included 27 men, 30 women, 10 boys, and 11 girls.

“They were screened according to their health conditions and received their respective necessities. The victims were placed according to their families,” he said.

Yesterday evening, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said heavy rainfall in the morning resulted in flash floods at several locations all across Klang.

However, immediate containment work managed to successfully control the water levels, with the floodwaters subsiding later that afternoon.
