No land encroachment in Bukit Enggang, property privately-owned

HULU LANGAT, June 2 — Construction activities currently being carried out at the Bukit Enggang area in Bandar Sungai Long are conducted on privately-owned land, says state executive councillor Hee Loy Sian amid public complaints.

As such, Hee, who is in charge of environment, said the question of land and forest encroachment does not arise.

He said this in response to the road and resort construction by a private developer taking place in the area.

“Hikers and residents have complained that the land and construction works are disrupting their activities here. This area has been private land since the 1980s, and is owned by Shah Alam Property,” he said during a visit to the location today.

“Application for development was made by the developer to the land office and council, which is estimated to take two to three weeks for approval.”

Hee added the construction of the resort and road is meant to increase ecotourism, in addition to reducing the risk of flooding in the area.

“The construction of the resort will only be temporary (estimated to take 10 years to complete), meant to develop the tourism sector in this area, which is surrounded by forest and lake.

“If we don’t build roads, it will cause danger in the event of rainfall, as it will lead to soil erosion due to the fact that there is a lake here and flooding can happen,” he said.

Nevertheless, Hee gave assurance that the development in the area will not disrupt hiking activities, adding that the authorities will constantly monitor the safety of visitors.

“I appeal to the public to also maintain cleanliness and not to damage the land area.”
