RM1.8 mln for repair, maintenance of Lembah Subang housing project — Deputy minister

KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 — A total of RM1.8 million was allocated this year for the repair and maintenance of units and facilities at the Lembah Subang People’s Housing Project (PPR) 1 in Taman Putra Damai.

Deputy Local Government Development Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said RM746,000 was allocated for the replacement of railings in all blocks, while another RM1.063 million was used for electrical wiring work, maintenance of 14 lifts, and repair of two units that burnt down.

“From 2017 to this year, a total of RM30.6 million was spent on repairs and maintenance. This does not include the cost of fees paid to the PPR’s managing agent.

“This project is almost 25 years old and the units require repair and maintenance work for common facilities such as lifts, roofs, halls and playgrounds,” he said in a statement after an official working visit to the project.

In addition, Akmal Nasrullah said the ministry together with the state government, represented by Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung, and the residents have agreed to set up a residents’ action committee to implement initiatives to improve the environment and quality of life there.

The committee will consist of representatives from the Federal government, the state government, and residents to strengthen the community.

“The ministry also welcomes the efforts and cooperation of all parties such as ThinkCity and NGOs to contribute their energy, ideas, and efforts, to strengthen the activities of the residents,” he said.

The Phase One construction of PPR Lembah Subang One was completed in March 1999, and Phase One was done in September 2000, for a total of 3,004 units with eight 17-storey blocks at a cost of RM109 million.
