SHAH ALAM, June 9 – Some 68 per cent of 22,767 individuals who participated in the state government’s free health screening programme Selangor Saring last year were identified to have suffered from diabetes, high cholesterol, or both.
According to an infographic shared on Facebook by state executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud, the common symptoms of diabetes include blurred vision, frequent urination, weight loss and slow-healing wounds.
Other symptoms are thirst, constant fatigue and increased appetite.
She also urged more members of the public to take advantage of the free screening programme by registering via https://selangorsaring.selangkah.my.
In an earlier posting, Dr Mariah shared a separate infographic revealing that 32 per cent of Selangor Saring participants from last year showed signs of undiagnosed high blood pressure and obesity.
The infographic emphasised that persistent high blood pressure can lead to complications such as heart attacks, strokes, heart failure and kidney damage.
Previously, Dr Mariah disclosed that Selangor Saring had witnessed the highest participation rate among community-driven health screening programmes, with 22,767 individuals taking part.
The program is one of six initiatives introduced by the Selangor state administration specifically for the people of the state, encompassing free screenings, financial aid, and access to financing.
The state government has allocated RM3.4 million to implement this health screening initiative, targeting individuals with a family medical history, obesity, and unhealthy lifestyles.
