Taiwan Open: Wei Chong – Kai Wun one step away from defending men’s doubles title

KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 — National men’s doubles pair Man Wei Chong – Tee Kai Wun and mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie – Toh Ee Wei have made it to the finals of the 2023 Taiwan Open Championship which will take place at the Tian-Mu Arena, Taipei tomorrow.

In today’s semi-final action, Man – Tee, who are the defending champions, were forced to fight up to three sets before defeating the national senior pair and the tournament’s top seeds Ong Yew Sin – Teo Ee Yi, 17 – 21, 21 – 19 and 21 – 9.

Awaiting the fifth seeds in the final will either be Lin Chia Yu – Lin Yong Sheng or Lu Ching Yao – Yang Po Han, both pairs from Taiwan, whose semi-final clash is later today.

Meanwhile, Chen – Toh are one step closer to their second Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour title when they easily dismissed the challenge of the host pair of Ye Hong Wei – Lee Chia Hsin 21 – 14, 21 – 19 in a 34-minute battle.

The pair, ranked 19th in the world, previously won their first BWF World Tour title when they emerged champions of the Orleans Masters Championships in France last April.

Awaiting them in the final are the home pair of Chiu Hsiang Chieh – Lin Xiao Min who defeated their compatriots Tseng Min Hao – Hsieh Pei Shan 21 – 10, 21 – 8.
