Thousands benefit from discounted-essential-goods sales programme in Subang Jaya

SUBANG JAYA, June 7 – Over 5,000 families here have benefitted from the state government’s discounted-essential-goods sales initiative, which has been ongoing since January this year.

Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng Mei Sze said that the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat (JER) programme has been organised 12 times in her constituency, with the most recent one taking place today.

In a recent collaboration with the Federal government, the programme is now known as Jualan Ehsan Rahmah.

“Today marks the first programme for June. Tomorrow, we have another JER programme at Sri Tanjung Apartments, USJ16.

“We are striving to organise more JER programmes and are currently in negotiations with PKPS (Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation),” she said during the programme at Subang Perdana Goodyear Court 6 Apartment in USJ 8, here yesterday.

Regarding today’s sales, Ng highlighted that in addition to the six basic items provided by PKPS, three types of Chinese kale and mini croissant rolls were also available, priced at RM2 and RM1 per pack respectively.

“These vegetables are sold by a non-governmental organisation (NGO). We greatly appreciate the participation of other entities in offering discounted sales, as it provides more choices for buyers,” she added.

Meanwhile, PKPS officer Nazira Ahmad reported that within two hours, five items – 500 chickens, 300 trays of eggs, 300 packs of fish, 300 packs of meat, and 300 bags of rice – were completely sold out.

“Today’s sales attracted 300 buyers, who had queued up in stages since 9am,” she said while commending the majority of buyers for bringing reusable bags.

The sales initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on the public by offering standard chickens for RM10 each, frozen blocks of meat (RM10 per pack), Grade B eggs (RM10 per tray), Indian mackerel fish (RM6 per pack), 5-kg cooking oil (RM25) and 5-kg rice (RM10).

Managed by PKPS, the programme benefited over two million residents during its three-month implementation from September to early December last year, with total sales exceeding RM16 million.

On May 31, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced an extension of the discounted sales until September 1, following a positive response from the public.

PKPS also received recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records for conducting the largest subsidised egg-and-chicken sales within two days in conjunction with Aidilfitri recently.
