Broadcasting Dept to provide details on Rahmah Sales prog

KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 — The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) through the Broadcasting Department will publish the details on the Rahmah Truck Sales Programme nationwide.

Its minister Fahmi Fadzil said this is to make the people aware of the locations and dates where they can enjoy savings on raw materials and necessities.

“I have also asked the Madani Community in the field as well as the Information Department officers to pass the word around when the Rahmah Sales programme is held in their areas.

“We believe this will be helpful, especially to those in areas that are facing issues or need a bit of assistance (in terms of necessities),” he told a press conference after launching the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation’s (MDEC) publication Horizon, earlier today.

Fahmi added a report by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) showed the Rahmah Sales programme has been very popular and brought relief in terms of the cost of goods and substantial savings.

In refuting several local media reports on the increase in the price of consumer goods, he said Malaysia’s inflation rate eased in May 2023 with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) falling to 2.8 per cent according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) report.

“Actually, the communication sector showed a very sharp decrease of -4 per cent, so it is deflation not inflation and indeed if we look at the food in the list, raw materials and so forth, the increase is very minimal,” Fahmi said.

The ministry will extend the report on the issue of the increase in the price of goods to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) for further action including enforcement.

When asked about negotiations on the state seats for the six-state elections (PRN) among Pakatan Harapan component parties, the PKR Information chief cum Harapan communications director said it will be announced soon.

“Discussions have gone on well. I see that generally, among the leaders there is a positive mood and I am confident an announcement will be made soon,” he said.

The Election Commission announced that nomination for the six-state elections involving Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah, Selangor, Penang, and Negeri Sembilan will be July 29, early voting on August 8, and the date for polling has been set on August 12.
