PETALING JAYA, July 5 — The Jualan Ehsan Rahmah (JER) affordable basic necessities sales programme for the Taman Medan state constituency was met with a very positive response, as all its products sold out within two hours.
Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation’s (PKPS) engineering senior assistant manager Shahrul Adnira Mohd Noor said over 300 residents had been queuing since 8.30am, well before the programme opened at 10am.
Chickens and eggs were among the items with the highest demand from residents, as they flocked to Masjid Al-Salam Taman Medan for JER.
“Due to the demand, we had to limit the number of items each customer could purchase, so as to ensure all visitors have the opportunity to purchase them. For example, each person could only buy two chickens and one tray of eggs,” he said when met today.
JER, managed by PKPS, offered standard chickens at RM10 each, fresh solid meat at RM10 per pack, Grade B chicken eggs at RM10 per tray, mackerel fish at RM6 per pac), five-kilogramme cooking oil at RM25 per bottle, and five-kilogramme bags of rice at RM10 per pack.
From July 15 onwards, the corporation will sell one-kilogramme packs of cooking oil at a discounted price of RM2 per pack, to meet the demand of visitors.
PKPS senior marketing manager Mohd Fazir Abdul Latif said that as a start, the discounted oil packs will be sold gradually at three selected JER locations, at 170 packs per location.
On May 31, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said programme, formerly known as Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat, has been extended to September 1 due to overwhelming response from the public.
PKPS has also been recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for organising the largest subsidised chicken and egg sale within a two-day period, during Hari Raya Aidilfitri this year.
Members of the public can review the complete list of daily locations (except on Friday and public holidays) on the PKPS Facebook page, or at the link http://linktr.ee/myPKPS.
