Over quarter mln user accounts benefit from free water scheme at RM30 mln — Air Selangor

KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 — Approximately 301,549 user accounts have gleaned the benefits of the free 20 cubic metres of water per month under Skim Air Darul Ehsan (Sade), as of December 2022.

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd acting chief executive officer Abas Abdullah said the state government funded the programme at a cost of over RM30 million.

“Currently, most of the 301,549 user accounts come from the B40 group and low-cost housing.

“The Sade campaign is ongoing, and Air Selangor as the implementing agency receives applications, collects them, and submits them to the state government for review,” he said after presenting the company’s 2022 Sustainability Report at The Gardens Mall, earlier today.

Abas also encouraged Air Selangor users to register for online water bills, or e-Bills, to facilitate any transactions.

“For now, 1.7 million accounts or which is 65 per cent of the 2.6 million user accounts, have switched to e-Bills. The use of e-Bills is easier, and we strongly encourage users to switch from conventional bills to e-Bills.

“So far, we have taken several initiatives, like targeting users who pay their water bills using digital platforms but do not use e-Bills, opening counters in new housing areas, and targeting local communities,” he said.

Previously, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced approximately 100,000 additional user accounts will enjoy free water at a cost of over RM30 million, fully borne by the state government.

This follows the revision of the minimum monthly household eligibility income threshold from RM4,000 to RM5,000.

Air Selangor is currently accepting registrations for Sade until December 31, 2024. To qualify, applicants must be Malaysian citizens and residing in Selangor with a household income of RM5,000 or below.

Their residential premises must have individual meters, and each applicant is only eligible to apply for one account.
