RM30 mln allocated for Sunway Serene facility upgrades

PETALING JAYA, July 7 — Sunway Group has allocated RM30 million to upgrade the infrastructure and facilities surrounding the development of Sunway Serene in Kelana Jaya, including the official opening of the 250-metre Sunway Serene Bridge.

Sunway Group founder and chairman Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah said the allocation to Sunway Property, the company’s property development arm, is for upgrading existing roads and restoring the 15-acre Sunway Serene Lake, in line with its planned 17-acre development.

“As part of Sunway Property’s sustainable development, the expenditure includes the construction of a 500-metre drainage channel along Jalan SS7/1 and SS7/3, a pedestrian walkway with a width of 1,800 millimetres, the upgrading of Jalan SS8/2 from two to three lanes, and a 250-metre bridge near Sunway Serene.

“The road upgrading works are to reduce traffic congestion and facilitate access to the public transportation network, including the Glenmarie LRT, Setia Jaya KTM, Kelana Jaya LRT, and the Sunway BRT stations,” he said when met at the Serene Sunway Bridge opening ceremony, officiated by Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir, here yesterday.

Cheah said Sunway Group will continue introducing low-carbon cities, in line with the country’s commitment to a carbon-neutral economy by 2050.

“At Sunway Group, we believe no company can stand alone without the community. We will implement initiatives for the community here and uphold our commitment to prioritising the community’s interests in the operation of this company.

“This includes close cooperation with the Petaling Jaya City Council to restore the lake, previously classified Class IV and V, indicating its unsuitability for recreational purposes.

“With the restoration of the lake, it is now open to the Kelana Jaya community and provides a green, safe, and clean environment,” he said.
