State polls: Amanah to contest nine seats in Selangor

By Sheeda Fathil

KLANG, July 17 – Selangor Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) has announced that it will contest nine seats in the state, including Hulu Bernam, in the upcoming state elections.

Its chairman Izham Hashim said the decision was made by the top leadership for Amanah to contest in Hulu Bernam while the Jeram seat will be contested by a Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate.

“Amanah previously had nine seats, including Jeram. But after discussions, it was agreed that BN would contest in Jeram while Amanah would contest in Hulu Bernam,” he said after the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a retention pond and related works near Taman Mutiara Bukit Raja, adjacent to the Shapadu Highway, here today.

On July 14, Izham stated that Amanah would field a young candidate in Seri Serdang, following the decision of its incumbent Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud, who is also from Amanah, to not contest the seat.

In the 14th general election, Dr Siti Mariah won the seat with a majority of 14,363 votes in 2018.

Izham also mentioned that the allocation of the 56 state assembly seats in Selangor between the Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) coalition and BN has been finalised.

The announcement of candidates for the elections is expected to take place on July 25.

Despite negotiations for seat allocation are still in progress, Izham assured that the process would not affect the cooperation and election campaign activities of both Harapan and BN.
