SABAK BERNAM, July 18 — Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has expressed his appreciation at the recognition given to him by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in announcing that he would remain Selangor menteri besar if Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) retains the state.
With questions over the next menteri besar done and dusted, Amirudin said the state coalition would now double up its effort to deliver victory.
“Thank you for the proposal (to name me menteri besar candidate)… I believe this has gotten the consensus of the top leadership. But this must now be translated into a victory in the coming state election.
“This is in fact the first time it has been announced. We will work hard to make sure of a win,” he told reporters after attending the state-level Sentuhan Agro Madani programme at MSekin Wonderland in Sekinchan today.
Earlier, Anwar, who is Harapan chairman, announced that Amirudin would be retained as menteri besar should the coalition defend the state in the upcoming election.
Anwar said the decision was owing to Selangor’s strong economic performance and track record in attracting investments under Amirudin’s helm.
For the record, Amirudin was sworn in as the 16th Selangor menteri besar on June 19, 2018 in Istana Alam Shah, Klang, succeeding Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
Selangor is set to hold its next election on August 12, along with Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.
