Gua Musang Orang Asli say will back unity govt

GUA MUSANG, Aug 4 — The Temiar Orang Asli tribe in Pos Pulat here is confident their future would be ensured by the unity government.

Resident Basri Abdullah, 47, said he is grateful for the socio-economic and infrastructure development spearheaded by the government, including a resettlement plan for his community before the construction of the Nenggiri hydroelectric project.

He is confident the Orang Asli in Pos Pulat who are eligible to vote will support Barisan Nasional (BN) in the August 12 state election.

“I am happy with BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the unity government, and we pray the BN candidate will win.

“Since last week, the villagers have started to put up BN flags as a show of support for BN as well as the unity government,” he told Bernama.

Rubber tapper Rahmad Anjang, 52, said the Orang Asli community in Pos Pulat has been integrated with BN since the country achieved independence more than 60 years ago, and that they hope the latest leadership will not marginalise Orang Asli in the district.

“More than 300 Orang Asli in Pos Pulat are involved in the Nenggiri hydroelectric dam project and they hope the project can be completed on schedule, with the construction of new settlements completed as soon as possible.

“Our hope is to have better development and progress compared with the original settlement. The most basic facility we want is a road because the current road is still a stone road with potholes,” he said.

Pos Pulat is an area in the Nenggiri constituency, where BN candidate Ab Aziz Yusoff, who is also the incumbent, will clash with PAS candidate Mohd Azizi Abu Naim.

Nenggiri has 20,219 voters, including 2,766 voters of various races including Orang Asli and Siamese people.
