SHAH ALAM, Aug 6 — Pakatan Harapan’s Paya Jaras candidate Mohd Khairuddin Othman said solving flooding issues in the constituency is not easy, but that he will put in the work.
The Paya Jaras incumbent said there have been efforts to deepen Sungai Kedondong, with plans to systematically widen and deepen Sungai Buloh.
As a temporary measure, he said he will intensify efforts to heighten Sungai Subang banks to protect Kampung Kubu Gajah residents from floods.
“We have deepened Sungai Kedondong but it has led to another problem — torrential water flow that is affecting the villagers (in Kampung Kubu Gajah).
“After heightening works on Sungai Subang banks, I will prompt the government to systematically widen Sungai Buloh and put an end to the flooding problem,” he said.
Paya Jaras’ flood woes are due to overflows from Sungai Buloh, Sungai Subang and Sungai Kedondong during heavy rain.
“It is unreasonable for the opposition to play up the flooding issue during my term as assemblyman as the problem cannot be simply or easily solved.
“I hope voters ask those playing up this issue … what their plans are to overcome (the problem). I daresay they don’t even know where the rivers in Paya Jaras are,” he said.
