Ludicrous to say PN victory in Pulai will force change in Putrajaya — Suhaizan

JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 29 — Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) claim the federal government will collapse if it wins Pulai is ludicrous, said Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) candidate Suhaizan Kaiat.

He said the opposition’s arguments were aimed at misleading the people.

Suhaizan said Harapan is confident of retaining the Pulai parliamentary seat and Simpang Jeram state seat by a convincing majority.

“If we do the maths, subtracting one from 148 (if PN wins Pulai) doesn’t threaten the federal government. They (PN) can use whatever they want to convince voters, but mathematically, it’s incorrect and unreasonable.”

“In Johor, the people are unique — they tend to be more modest in many aspects and think rationally about whether they can accept the propaganda,” he told reporters during a walkabout at a market near Taman Sentosa, Johor Bahru, yesterday.

Suhaizan was responding to a statement by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, who said if PN wins the by-elections, it would signify a significant change in the federal government.

The unity government, comprising Harapan, Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, holds 148 seats in the Dewan Rakyat, while PN has 73 seats.

In the Pulai by-election, Suhaizan will face a three-cornered fight with PN’s Zulkifli Jaafar and Independent candidate Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi.

The Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections were called after the death of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub on July 23 left the seats vacant.

Early voting is on September 5 and polling day is September 9.
