Malaysia will become great nation in Asia if Unity govt gets another five years

BALIK PULAU, Aug 11 — Malaysia will become a great nation in Asia if the Unity Government continues to govern the country for another five years, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said this confidence was based on the Unity Government’s history of championing issues for various segments of Malaysian society since taking over the country’s administration eight months ago.

“Be it an issue involving the padi subsidy, rubber smallholders, military houses, civil servant salary, the livelihood of fishermen, we are trying to maximise improvement within these eight months.

“Imagine we continue to govern for another five years, Insya-Allah Malaysia will become a great nation in Asia,” he said during a luncheon with the locals at Gulai Kalut Hot Stall here today.

Anwar said the government has various plans lined up for the benefit of the people in the country, including improving the salary scale for private workers.

Anwar, who is also the Chairman of Pakatan Harapan (PH) asked voters in the Malay area, especially, to support the combined candidates of PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Penang State Election  tomorrow.

“The Chinese area looks orderly, secure. I want the Malay area for support. I ask (candidates) to work and God willing, this is the trust we will take to defend the fate of the people,” he said.

The PKR president also described a few Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders as “short-sighted” for claiming that the Unity Government did not implement any aid or change to help the people of this country.

Earlier, in a busy schedule in conjunction with the states elections, Anwar spent time socializing at the Gulai Kalut stall, here before rushing to the Qaryah Mosque in Kampung Perlis in Penang to perform Friday prayers.

Also present at the event were BN candidates for the Telok Bahang State Legislative Assembly seat, Ahmad Zaki Shah Shah Headan; Pulau Betong PH candidate Mohd Tuah Ismail and Balik Pulau MP Datuk Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik.
