MB vows to digitalise Selangor’s public services

By Danial Dzulkifly

SHAH ALAM, Aug 24 — Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has reiterated his commitment to the digitalisation of state government services to bolster efficiency for the public, reflecting the urgency for modernisation.

He said this after paying a surprise visit to several government service counters, at the Selangor Land and Mines Office, Klang Municipal Council and Klang District Land Office, earlier today.

Amirudin noted that while there were noticeably long queues at some of these counters, public services were functioning optimally.

This, he said, is thanks partly to the digitalisation efforts undertaken by the state, including via the usage of the Smartbox system at the lands and mines office, which allows customers to conduct their businesses and make payments online.

“God willing, in this new term, we will focus on the digitisation of government services to make it even easier for the public.

“Today’s surprise visit is part of my effort to understand the real issues on the ground,” he said in a Facebook post.

“This will help me obtain input for the Modernising and Digitising Government Committee, which was newly established through the announcement of the state government’s executive council portfolios yesterday,’’ he said.

Yesterday, Amirudin announced that he would oversee five key portfolios in the state administration.

Other than the modernising and digitising of government portfolio, he will also be in charge of land and natural resources; finance and economy; strategic communications; and education and human capital development.

In his inaugural address to state civil servants earlier this week, after being sworn in as Menteri Besar for the second term, Amirudin underscored the urgency for a digital transformation of government services.

He emphasised the vital role of teamwork among civil servants and the importance of a comprehensive understanding of state policies, all as part of his vision to uplift the standard of public services in the state

Furthermore, in a move to foster greater public involvement and transparency, the state’s leading official encouraged the public to submit their suggestions on enhancing public services via [email protected], which is managed directly by Amirudin’s office
