Over 90 pct of bullying, sexual harassment cases resolved within 15 days — MOE

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 18 — Over 90 per cent of bullying and sexual harassment cases at schools were resolved within 15 days, said the Education Ministry (MOE).

The MOE in a statement today said all State Education Departments, District Education Departments and schools have been directed to immediately report the progress of bullying and sexual harassment cases to the ministry.

“The MOE is always proactive in handling bullying and sexual harassment cases at all education institutions under the MOE to ensure a safe ecosystem for teachers, students and everyone in these institutions,” said the statement.

The ministry is finalising guidelines on managing bullying and sexual harassment cases, and the new disciplinary rules for students will be issued soon to replace the Education Ordinance 1957 and the Education (School Discipline) Regulations 1959.

It said various initiatives have been activated to ensure the enforcement of existing rules.

Among them are “interventions for bullying victims and strategic partnerships with all stakeholders, especially enforcement agencies, to ensure the issues can be handled more effectively”, said the statement.

The MOE said there are three channels through which the public, school staff and parents can send information about bullying or sexual harassment cases.

These channels are the bullying hotline (03-8884 9352), email ([email protected]) and Sistem Pengurusan Aduan Awam available at the MOE portal.
