Putrajaya airspace closed from Aug 26-31 for National Day event

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 25 — The Putrajaya airspace will be closed for 60 minutes daily from tomorrow until August 31 for National Day 2023.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has issued an Aeronautical Information Publication Supplement advising temporary changes to the controlled airspace and air traffic management in and around the Kuala Lumpur airspace.

It said the document was issued to accommodate the event involving the air force and police in the National Day parade in Dataran Putrajaya on August 31.

“The objective of these changes is to ensure a safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic before, during and after the aerial flypast and para jump, taking into account the increase in the number of movements and the special handling needed throughout this event,” it said.

The Putrajaya airspace will be closed from 11am to 12pm from tomorrow to August 28 for aerial flypast rehearsals, and from 9.45am to 10.45am on August 29 and August 31, respectively, for full dress rehearsals and the actual event.

As many flights are expected to arrive at and depart the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) shortly before and after the closure of airspace within the Kuala Lumpur Terminal Control Area, airline operators were advised to plan their flights to arrive or depart well before or after the closure to avoid delays.

“Aircraft operators are advised to take into consideration the possibility of delays of arrival into KLIA or klia2 after closure and to plan for sufficient fuel in the event holding is required,” said CAAM.

CAAM said as helicopter and para jump activities will be held from today to August 31 from 7.45am to 8.55am daily, KLIA and klia2 operations will remain open during the period.

“Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan, Penuhi Harapan” is the theme for this year’s National Day and Malaysia Day.
