HULU SELANGOR, Aug 10 — The state government has appointed a new housing developer to rebuild the housing projects in Kampung Serendah Perdana and Kampung Jawa (Desa Beringin), which have been abandoned for 26 years.

State executive councillor for housing Rodziah Ismail said the state government has allocated RM18 million for both projects, which have been stalled since 1997 due to the failure of its two previous contractors.

“The state government has appointed Xeranti Sdn Bhd as the rescuing developer, taking into account the interests of all parties. It has also set several conditions, including obtaining the agreement of 192 owners in Kampung Serendah Perdana and 119 landowners in Desa Beringin within a six-month period from the appointment date.

“The developer must also provide RM2 million as a bank guarantee and a commitment to the state government and must complete the project restoration within 36 months from the appointment date,” she said.

Rodziah was speaking at the briefing session on the restoration work of the abandoned enlargement projects for Kampung Serendah Perdana and Desa Beringin, which was officiated by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari at Dewan Komuniti Serendah yesterday.

She added the success of the restoration of these projects can only be achieved with the full support of the property owners.

“These projects are not just limited to the physical construction but also aim to create a well-organised community, socially and economically.

“If successful, we will witness a harmonious and progressively developing residential area, benefiting not only the current owners but also future generations,” Rodziah said.

Xeranti Sdn Bhd executive chairman Basarudin Mohd Tapi said property owners are given three offer choices, including ex gratia payments if they are no longer interested in continuing with the development work.

“The second option is for property owners who want development in the existing area, to which we offer a special price for each residential unit, deducting the previously paid upfront money.

“For the third option, owners in Serendah Perdana can choose to get housing in Desa Beringin,” he said.
