Securities Commission appoints two new board members

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 — The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) has announced the appointments of Datuk Mohammad Faiz Azmi and Datuk Alizatul Khair Osman Khairuddin as board members for a two-year term, effective August 15, 2023.

In a statement today, it said the board, appointed by the Minister of Finance, is responsible for monitoring the overall governance of the SC and has oversight of its regulatory and developmental mandates.

Chairman Datuk Seri Awang Adek Hussin said the new board members’ diverse backgrounds would bring fresh perspectives and ensure a well-rounded approach to decision-making and oversight.

“With the addition of Mohammad Faiz and Alizatul, the SC board will comprise a more diverse group of professionals with extensive knowledge in various sectors,” he said.

Mohammad Faiz has over 38 years of experience in audit and business advisory services in Malaysia and the United Kingdom.

He is the retired partner and former executive chairman of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Malaysia. He had previously served as president of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and chairman of the Malaysia Accounting Standards Board.

Meanwhile, Alizatul has over 40 years of experience in legal and judicial services, having served as Judicial Commissioner and Judge in the High Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Federal Court.

She was appointed commissioner of the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) by Yang di-Pertuan Agong in November 2020.
