Sultan: Police must find those responsible for false religious school closure news

SHAH ALAM,  Aug 28 — His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor expressed hope that police would track down the people that falsely alleged tahfiz centres and private religious schools in the state would be closed.

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj said the accusation caused parents to worry and eroded the confidence of Muslims in religious institutions and authorities in this state.

His Royal Highness asked those responsible for the slander to stop the treacherous and irresponsible act and instead get the facts right before making accusations.

“I request that the police track down the people responsible and take legal action against them immediately .

“In reality, I had ordered the registration of unregistered private religious and tahfiz schools.

“This was to ensure that these schools are safe and are a comfortable learning environment for students to gain knowledge,” said His Majesty, who is also the Malaysian National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI) chairman, said at an MKI meeting here today.

Ahead of the recent state elections, several non-government organisations claimed that the Selangor Government was closing down private religious schools in the state.

On July 6, Dato’ Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari insisted that no notice of closure was made. He repeated the denial after the state elections as the rumours persisted .
