Festival at Pantai Bagan Lalang this Saturday sees 100,000 satay sticks served — Exco

SHAH ALAM, Sept 12 — Around 10,000 visitors are expected to attend Fiesta Sate Selangor at Pantai Bagan Lalang in Sepang this Saturday (September 16).

State executive councillor for rural development and unity Datuk Rizam Ismail said the festival, running from 10am to 2pm, will feature a variety of exciting activities will be held, including 100,000 free sticks of satay for visitors.

“This time, we aim to set a new record in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) with 100,000 satay sticks, as the previous record in 2015 was 50,000 sticks.

“Our attempt comes after MBOR recognised the preparation of 2,022 trays of Selangor nasi ambeng during last year’s Fiesta Nasi Ambeng Tradisional Selangor event.

“Fiesta Sate Selangor will have 10 satay vendors from all over the state taking part in the festival,” he said during a radio interview on SelangorFM yesterday.

The other activities include artist performances, sales stalls, exhibitions, lucky draws, diverse clothing competitions, and short video contests with themes related to Malaysia Day, Kita Selangor, and satay.

“One of the objectives of organising this fiesta is to promote satay as a traditional food with high value in Selangor.

“It can also boost the competitiveness of entrepreneurs, especially traditional satay makers in the villages, to generate rural economic activity and involve the residents in the state government’s programmes.

“The festival can also attract tourists from both inside and outside the country to come to Selangor and try this special cuisine,” Rizam said.

Meanwhile, similar to nasi ambeng, Kajang satay will soon receive official recognition as one of the state’s traditional foods and heritage.

He said this will be carried out in the near future via the Selangor Malay Customs and Heritage Corporation (Padat).

“We aim to elevate the status of Kajang satay as a culinary tradition, without neglecting other local delicacies.

“The state government acknowledges Kajang satay as one of our identity foods. It will be officially recognised as a heritage food in the near future,” Rizam said.
