SUBANG JAYA, Sept 26 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has allocated RM50,000 for a special disaster relief fund.
Subang Jaya Mayor Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said the fund would be spent on basic needs, such as food, while waiting for assistance from other agencies.
He said MBSJ and the Petaling District Social Welfare Department (JKM) are working together for natural disaster preparedness.
“We have also held discussions with related agencies on the preparations since it is now the rainy season, and soon it will be the monsoon season.
“Therefore, we have allocated a special fund of RM50,000 in case there is a natural disaster,” he said during a press conference after chairing the local council’s full board meeting at the MBSJ headquarters here today.
He said the preparation for natural disasters include flash floods and landslides.
Earlier, Fauzi said issues raised during the meeting included the budget for tree maintenance to avoid trees falling during the rainy season.
Acknowledging the recent weekly cases of fallen trees, he said the council had prepared an emergency budget to maintain the trees.
“I have asked the landscape department to inspect trees that could potentially fall and collapse on vehicles,” he said, adding that the council has contractors ready for such cases.
