JAKARTA, Sept 25 — The Selangor government is identifying opportunities to increase its presence in the fields of business and education globally, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
He added that Selangor intended to unlock the full potential of its companies by leveraging on their expertise and capabilities to expand their reach into the international market.
Such companies included Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor Bhd (KPS), Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor and its subsidiary, Worldwide Holdings Bhd (WHB).
KPS is an investment holding company with investments in the manufacturing sector, while WHB provides environmental management and property development services.
“I believe that by harnessing their potentials and establishing strong relationships, we can introduce our products more effectively,” he told the media after a dialogue session with the Malaysian diaspora here last night.
The Malaysian ambassador to Indonesia, Datuk Syed Md Hasrin Tengku Hussin was also present at the event.
Amirudin said the Selangor International Islamic University stood out as a higher education institution that attracted many Indonesian students to follow its Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy programmes.
“I am confident that this relationship can be further strengthened.”
Amirudin also expressed hope that the cultural similarities and understanding between Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as the cooperation of the Malaysian community in Indonesia, could help Selangor explore the state’s economic potentials and opportunities.
He shared information about the directions and policies introduced by the Federal and Selangor governments during the dialogue session.
Amirudin was in Jakarta following an invitation to the Indonesia International Book Fair and to promote the Selangor public library.
The book fair organised by the Indonesian Publishers Association aimed to attract 55,000 visitors and the participation of 150 publishers, companies and institutions.
