SHAH ALAM, Oct 16 — Efforts to rehabilitate the Sungai Gabai Recreational Forest, which was terribly affected by the massive flood in Hulu Langat in 2021, are among the main focus of Dusun Tua assemblyman Datuk Johan Abdul Aziz for his constituency this term.

The Barisan Nasional lawmaker pointed out the location, which was previously vibrant with tourism activities like camping, is not as lively anymore.

As a result, he said the livelihood of local businesses there have also been affected.

“Now, even if there are people going for a swim there, it is not as bustling. Perhaps, this is because there are not as many hawkers and facilities as before,” he said.

“Amenities like gazebo, toilet, as well as many other structures, have been destroyed. As such, my office is in the midst of preparing a report on the matter to be presented to the Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

“I am made to understand that the surau and buildings there were previously constructed with the help of state funding. I will push so that repair works can be done immediately.”

Previously, Johan had said that the potential of his Dusun Tua constituency as a state tourism destination will be further boosted through the preservation and conservation of the various attractions there.

He has also had a meeting with Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing to inform on the need for infrastructure improvements and upgrades in the area.

Other than Sungai Gabai, Dusun Tua also boasts various other natural attractions, particularly in its northern region, including Gunung Huang, Sungai Manggis, Sungai Congkak and Sungai Pangsun.
