Balakong rep ensures drains clear to avoid flash floods

SHAH ALAM, Oct 26 — The drain channels in several areas around the Balakong state constituency have been cleared to prevent flash floods following recent heavy rains.

Its state assemblyman Ong Chun Wei said a large-scale cleaning effort, in collaboration with relevant agencies, has been carried out at locations prone to frequent flooding, like Jalan Kasturi and Sungai Chua.

“From what I saw, the drain channels in this area are mostly old-fashioned or small-sized. Additionally, accumulated garbage and debris obstruct the water flow, leading to flash floods.

“I request the Kajang Municipal Council and KDEB Waste Management undertake a phased cleaning process while upgrading the drain channels in the near future,” he said.

Ong also advised Balakong’s residents to maintain the surrounding areas’ cleanliness by refraining from indiscriminately disposing of garbage in inappropriate locations.
