Exco hopes for bigger rural development allocation under state budget

By Norrasyidah Arshad

SHAH ALAM, Oct 25 — State executive councillor for rural development Datuk Rizam Ismail hopes he will be given a substantial allocation in the upcoming 2024 Selangor Budget to focus on improving infrastructure in lesser developed regions.

This is crucial to enhance the quality of life for the residents of Selangor’s outskirts and rural areas.

“The focus next year will be more on planned development in rural areas. We want to repair community halls and add more streetlights for more comfortable living.

“We will also ensure that while rural areas are developed, it will not erode their traditional values, particularly for villages,” he said when contacted.

Previously, Selangor Speaker Lau Weng San confirmed Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari will table the budget on November 10.

Lau said it will be done in conjunction with the two-week State Legislative Assembly sitting.

In the 2023 budget, the state government allocated RM2.45 billion, comprising RM1.25 billion in operating expenditure and RM1.20 billion in development expenditure.
