Malbatt 850-10 team in Lebanon safe — Armed Forces Chief

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 — The Malbatt 850-10 team members involved in the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon are safe despite the tense situation at the country’s border following the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) Chief General Tan Sri Mohammad Ab Rahman said the Malbatt 850-10 members are performing their assignments as usual.

“Alhamdulillah, although the situation is a bit tense there (in Lebanon), they are fine and in good health,” he said at a press conference after delivering his first mandate as MAF chief during a parade Dataran Panglima Tentera Darat, Sungai Besi today.

Mohammad was commenting on the safety of the Malbatt 850-10 members involved in the Lebanese peacekeeping mission.

Based on international media reports, the clashes between the Hezbollah group in southern Lebanon and Israeli forces are escalating.

He added the Malbatt 850-10 presence in the Lebanese peacekeeping mission is on the order and subject to the United Nations (UN). For now, they will remain in the country until further instructions.

“They (the UN) will issue an order whether Malbatt remains there (Lebanon) or withdraws…pray that no accidents or mishaps befall the officers and members of Malbatt 850-10,” Mohammad said.

Also present were Army Commander General Datuk Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan, Air Force Commander General Tan Sri Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan, and deputy chief of Navy, Vice-Admiral Datuk Zulhelmy Ithnain.
