KUALA SELANGOR, Oct 14 — Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, sponsored 15 participants for the optical fibre cable installation skills course at the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC).

Its chief operation officer Saipolyazan M Yusop said RM75,000 was allocated to help the students expand their skills.

Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) chief operating officer Saipolyazan M Yusop speaks to the press after the Graduation Ceremony for Fiber Optic Technician (FOT) Programme at the Selangor Technical Skills Development Center (STDC) in Kuala Selangor, on October 13, 2023.

“Those receiving the aid are from the asnaf (tithe recipient) category, who may have limited resources but show a strong determination to pursue their knowledge.

“We hope the contribution will help them develop their skills since this field is in high demand in the employment sector,” he said after the FOT Programme graduation ceremony and the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between STDC and SRC Global Sdn Bhd, at STDC’s main campus yesterday.

Saipolyazan added that if the programme is successful and demand increases, MBI agrees to sponsor skilled students at STDC in the future.

“We understand that skill programmes can guarantee employment, as many companies are actively looking for skilled graduates. InsyaAllah, if there is a requirement, we are ready to provide sponsorship again,” he said.

One of the course’s best students, Mohammad Alif Anuar Saidil Habib, said he was moved by the recognition and thanked MBI for the contribution.

“I am thankful to MBI, who was willing to sponsor my training at STDC for 13 days. I am deeply interested in the course and am determined to take it to the next level.

“I strongly recommend young people, especially those who may not excel in academics, to explore skill programmes, as they are in high demand at the moment,” he said.
