National Dota2 team deliver bronze in Hangzou Asiad

HANGZHOU, Oct 2 — The national e-sports camp captured another medal in the Hangzhou Asian Games when they defeated Kyrgyzstan 2 – 0 in Dota2 at the Hangzhou E-Sports Centre today.

The national Dota2 team of Chan Kok Hong, Cheng Jin Xiang, Thiay Jun Wen, Ng Wei Poong, and Yap Jian Wei were a class above Amanbek Iunusali Uulu, Abdyrakhman Raiapov, Kyialbek Taiirov, Bektur Kulov, and Bakyt Emilzhanov of Kyrgyzstan in the bronze-medal playoff.

The national team, who targeted the gold medal, had to be contented with the bronze after losing 2 – 1 to China in yesterday’s semi-finals, which also saw Kyrgyzstan losing 2 – 0 to Mongolia.

Jun Wen, also known as JT, said they were unsatisfied with the bronze.

“The team is good, we should keep pushing ourselves to be a better team. We can do better than bronze,” he said.

Meanwhile, national coach Chai Yee Fung said their lack of preparation time affected the team’s chances of striking gold, and he promised that they would improve their performance next time.

Earlier, the national Arena of Valor team created history when they became the first-ever Asian Games silver medallist in esports after losing to favourites China on Tuesday (September 26).

This is the first time esports has been contested as a medal event in the Asian Games after debuting as a demonstration sport in the 2018 edition in Jakarta-Palembang, Indonesia.
