Selangor govt to empower youth in creative fields — Exco

By Yasmin Ramlan

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 — The Selangor government is focusing on empowering its youth in creative fields, including filmmaking and scriptwriting, to nurture and refine their talents and potential.

Speaking to Selangor Journal, state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Najwan Halimi said the young generation should not be exclusively associated with sports, stressing the importance of preparing them holistically.

“We aim to seek out fresh talents beyond safeguarding small entrepreneurs’ welfare, which is to include the creative economy. This includes those in the creative industry, such as filmmaking and scriptwriting.

“Among the new segments that we want to explore is the empowerment of industries related to the young generation and their economy,” he said at the launch of the 8th Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (SDEC) 2023 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, here today.

In elaborating further on his speech, Najwan encouraged young entrepreneurs to grab the opportunities offered by the industry players at the event, especially for startup businesses involving micro, small, and medium enterprises.

“They have to explore how to adapt to the creative digital economy in Selangor and understand that the conventional marketing strategy is no longer effective, we have to be involved in digital and social media,” he said.

The Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS 2023), which is to be the largest edition by far, is held for four days from October 19 to 22.

This year, besides featuring six core components, the annual trade summit will also feature five exciting events in parallel with the main programmes.

SIBS 2023 also sees greater participation than its previous editions, totalling 1,006 booths and expected to record 50,000 trade and public visitors.
