SHAH ALAM, Oct 11 — The state government has identified 97 hotspots and 390 at-risk areas which could face potential floods ahead of the coming northeast monsoon season.

Berita Harian reported state executive councillor for disaster management Najwan Halimi as saying that 23 of the hotspots are in the Klang district, followed by Sepang (19), Hulu Langat (19), Gombak (13), Petaling (11), Kuala Langat (five), Kuala Selangor (four), Sabak Bernam (two), and Hulu Selangor (one).

In line with the recent announcement by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, all state executive councillors have also been given specific tasks to ensure Selangor can proactively respond in the face of potential disasters.

“Only last week, the Menteri Besar stated our readiness, highlighting that Selangor remains on high alert.

“The State Disaster Management Unit is also monitoring the ongoing monsoon transition phase and working closely with local authorities, ensuring all are primed and ready,” he said.

Najwan added that most local authorities in the state have also conducted simulations to face potential floods and storms.

He was speaking at the Ops Ex-Ganjar field exercise at Dock 8A Northport, Klang, earlier today, which was also attended by Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

Commenting on the programme, Najwan said such an exercise is paramount in ensuring all parties are prepared to handle disasters and other security crises, especially those affecting Malaysia’s primary entry points.

“Adhering to the International Ships and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code) and National Security Council’s (NSC) directives on crisis and disaster management, the simulation underscores our commitment to ensuring Selangor, and by extension, Malaysia, remains safe and prepared,” he said.

Today’s exercise was a collaborative effort between the Selangor NSC, the Port Klang Authority, Northport, and Westports.
